Schmalz Construction Site Enters the Final Stages

The largest construction project in the history of the company is now at its peak. The external facade of the new production facility was completed in June.

Around 50 companies have been involved in the entire project up to now, and a conscious effort was made to select mostly local companies to carry out construction work. The cooperation between the companies and the on-site working atmosphere have both been excellent, with no accidents to report up to now. One reason for the good level of cooperation is that many of the engineers and tradespeople know each other from other Schmalz construction projects and discuss their work on a regular basis.

With the external facade now finished, the new 13,000 m² production facility is a hive of activity. Interior construction of the individual floors, sanitation areas and electrical systems is currently in full swing, as is the installation of doors and gates. A state-of-the-art fire alarm system with sprinklers is currently being installed, and access roads and external systems are also nearing completion.

Following the completion of tiling and painting work, the final touches to the ventilation system and the construction of the modern computer and network system, the initial relocation of certain departments to the new facility is planned for mid-August. Thanks to the cooperation of building planners and construction firms, the project will be completed on-time and on-budget following a construction period of around a year.

The entire construction project was planned under consideration of the latest environmental standards. Underfloor heating is installed throughout and is powered by our own wood-chip heating system, with optimal working conditions ensured thanks to modern control and ventilation systems. Remarkably, the energy requirements of the new building are 60% below the values prescribed by the German Energy Saving Regulation (Energieeinsparverordnung – EnEV).

The realisation of the new production facility is an important investment in our quest to become the global market leader in vacuum technology. It offers a clear sign for the further development of the company, and also indicates our long-lasting support of the plant in Glatten.
