Schmalz is Viewing the Current Year with Confidence for the Future

Around the World, Schmalz is Perceiving a Much Less Tense Mood

The branch in China was named Schmalz company of the year. Even in the crisis year, the branch grew strongly.

Schmalz, the vacuum specialist, is estimating that 2010 will bring growth in revenue and earnings and is planning lower double-digit growth in revenues in comparison to the previous year. After a successful year in 2008, the volume of orders declined in 2009. However, Schmalz has observed a steady increase in incoming orders beginning in the second half of 2009, giving reason for optimism in the current year.

The situation is also improving for the 16 branches around the world. The World Marketing Meeting, which included all managing directors, took place at the end of January at the company’s headquarters in Glatten, Germany. “The mood was far better than a year ago, and all participants anticipate a significant improvement in business,” reported Dr. Kurt Schmalz, Managing Director. During the meeting, the branch in China was chosen “Schmalz Company of the Year”. Based on revenue, turnover and productivity, it was the most successful branch in 2009.

Last year, the company increased its focus on growth industries, such as solar, wind power, airports, etc. This strategy is now paying off. Numerous innovative product developments were successfully introduced to the market. The new production facilities and the newly introduced added-value system bring the company additional, important competitive advantages, particularly through short delivery times and efficient processes.

In spite of the optimistic mood, the company plans to keep expenses as low as possible in 2010 in order to bring the firm through the year successfully. Last year, Schmalz responded quickly and took internal measures to reduce expenses. At the same time, the jobs of the entire fixed staff were maintained sustainably. “The knowledge, experience and dedication of our employees are our most important assets. Of course, maintaining our permanent workforce is our primary goal,” reported Wolfgang Schmalz, Managing Director. “This year will remain financially challenging for us, but we are counting on positive overall growth. We are optimistic that 2011 will bring us close to the figures of 2008,” continued Schmalz.
