- Handling of Metal sheets with the vacuum lifting device VacuMaster Vario
Over the years, Haist, a medium-sized steel construction company located in Mitteltal near Baiersbronn, Germany, has grown from a simple metalworking shop into a well-known steel construction company. The company carries out complex steel construction and customized steel production as well as general forging and metalworking throughout southern Germany.
In order to streamline its internal processes, the company decided to reorganize its logistical transportation to and from the production machines. Steel sheets weighing between 540 and 1,800 kg were formerly handled using crane-operated grippers or magnetic grippers. This often made it difficult to ensure work safety. The transport was also time-intensive and required at least two employees.
The vacuum lifting device VacuMaster Vario 2000 can be used to move steel sheets weighing up to 2,000 kg. The steel sheets used at Haist are medium-sized at 1,500 x 3,000 mm (length x width) and are between 15 and 50 mm thick. The vacuum lifting device consists of a steel longitudinal beam with an ergonomic operator handle, integrated vacuum reservoir and vacuum generator. The entire unit is suspended on a crane. Work with the lifting device can begin immediately after it is connected to the power supply. To compensate for uneven areas on the steel sheets, a total of 14 single suction plates attached to spring elements were installed. The lifting device requires only one person for operation and is very popular among the employees. The necessary degree of safety (even in the event of a power failure) is ensured by a large vacuum reservoir, a vacuum non-return valve and an electronic warning device, which issues an acoustic signal when the vacuum level is too low. The manual slide valve with its clamp-safe catch lever prevents incorrect operation and the unintentional release of the load.
