Handling blocks of cheese with the vacuum tube lifter Jumbo Ergo

Goldsteig Käsereien Bayerwald is Europe’s second-largest manufacturer of mozzarella cheese for the consumer segment, and one of the most prominent manufacturers of hard cheese. In 2006, they built a fully-automated factory for the production of hard and semi-hard cheeses in Cham, Germany which fulfill the highest quality requirements and standards. This factory contains a computerized high-rack storage area, which requires the movement of approximately 1,500 blocks of cheese each day. The company already used an older Schmalz lifting device model and was very satisfied with it. However, the lifting device could no longer keep up with the increased productivity.

After an intensive planning phase, Goldsteig decided to use a new vacuum tube lifter JumboErgo 140 to lift two blocks of cheese. The system is attached to an aluminum crane system SRA, which ensures optimum load distribution. The two blocks of cheese are picked up with a double suction pad, lifted onto a beam with sliding suction pads, and moved towards the automatic order-picking system. The vacuum tube lifter JumboErgo 140 can easily lift the two blocks of cheese (each weighs 60 kg), thereby achieving a productivity increase of 50%.
