Lilly Deutschland GmbH is the German subsidiary of Eli Lilly and Company, one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in the world. Lilly has been known in Germany for over 50 years. They are always researching and developing new treatment methods to help cure sickness, ease suffering, and improve quality of life for patients.
At their location in Giessen, Germany, Lilly Pharma Fertigung und Distribution GmbH & Co KG has both a production facility and a logistics center. In order to comply with the health and work regulations of the American parent group, the workpieces are separated into two weight classes (10 kg or less, over 10 kg) prior to order picking. Workpieces that weigh more than 10 kg may only be lifted using a lifting aid.

The vacuum tube lifter JumboFlex 35 is now used to lift the heavy workpieces in the order picking area at Lilly Pharma. This vacuum tube lifter lifts loads weighing 10 to 25 kg and allows quick, efficient handling. Loads are gripped and lifted with vacuum force alone. The vacuum tube lifter JumboFlex conforms to the latest ergonomic standards. Its ergonomic, single-hand operation allows the work to be performed without endangering the employees’ health. The health aspect was also the main reason why the Schmalz company was selected for the purchase. Lilly Pharma also wanted a lifting aid that could lift both sacks and cardboard boxes. The quick-change adapter is integrated as a standard component in the vacuum tube lifter JumboFlex and allows various grippers to be changed in seconds, without the need for tools. This makes it possible to use a sack gripper for sacks and a double suction pad for cardboard boxes.
The system is rounded off by an aluminum crane system SRA, which has a crane track length of 11,000 mm and provides for flexibility within the working area.
