Application Reports of Vacuum Gripping Systems
The examples of applications in various areas and sectors of trade and industry give you an impression of the possible uses of our vacuum gripping systems.
The application describes the safe handling of solar glass and solar modules. The partly at the back side curved solar glass modules are fixed by using the vacuum technology for further processing stages such as framing and film cutting.
The vacuum layer gripper SPZ is the gripper system in palett size. This enabled the palettizing and depalettizing of whole product layers. This reduces significantly the cycle time.The suction plane is made of special foam or single suction pads. Thereby the gripper is perfectly adapted to the workpiece and it needs no gripper chance for various workpieces.

Sawing of wood panels is a dangerous and accurate work. The Warsaw Machinery company integrates the large-area gripping system FXC into their automated saw systems. It enables the handling for various workpieces in undefined positions.
The classical VacuBox permits the safe and reliable handling of rough-sawn timber, warped or twisted beams, planks and boards with rough-sawn surfaces and even new and used pallets.
The handling of timber in layers with rough surface can be done with the area vacuum gripping system. The area vacuum gripping system can also work with partial occupancy so that knoteholes not affect the handling and not complete layers can be smooth transported.

The seperate handling of veneer makes high demands on the careful handling. The vacuum spider SSP is best suited for this task.
The vacuum gripping system SBX enables the automated handling of pallets. It lifts the empty pallet from the conveyor and puts it down on the stack. This process ist fast and safely. Low pollution of the pallets affects not the process. The gripping, conversion and position of the pallets is compared with the same vacuum gripper.
The automation for loading and unloading of forming machines is becoming more and more important.
A vacuum gripper FX-35 which is used by Messrs. Trapo AG Fördertechnik for loading conveyor belts. Even if not fully in contact with the load, the FX-35 is capable of handling the goods safely, precisely and quickly. It is, for example, also capable of picking up single tin cans. Since the system can handle partial loads and is also suitable for use with many different objects, such as tin cans, cardboard boxes and pallets, it is extremely flexible.
Wooden pallets of varying sizes can be transported with the aid of the large-area gripper of the type FX mounted on an industrial robot. The position of the area on the pallet which can be gripped is undefined. In some cases, the available gripping area is reduced by the presence of cracks, knotholes, etc.
The application video shows the palletizing of wood in a large sawmill and woodworking company. An industrial robot, equipped with the large-area vacuum gripping system FX from J. Schmalz GmbH, lifts complete layers of individual wooden boards from a conveyor belt and stacks them.
The large-area vacuum-gripping system SBX is intended primarily for the woodworking industry and is used to lift complete layers of planed beams.

The vacuum layer gripper SPZ-M-C was designed to handle a variety of packaging materials. The patented curtain concept and the manual clamping generate additional forces.
The large-Area Vacuum Gripping System FMC is optimum for handle aluminum sections. The number of aluminum sections per layer varies. That is no problem for the FMC, because the gripper system operates with full or partial occupancy.

The large-area vacuum gripping system FXC is often used for the handling of doors. The FXC enabled the gripping of doors without damage and marking. The gripping system put down the doors on exactly position.Moreover, it can put spacer between the doors.
The available gripping surface is restricted by the geometry of the workpieces and the many openings on the facing panels to be lifted. At the same time, the position of the area which can be gripped, is not precisely defined.
The application shows a multi-functional vacuum gripping system with an articulated palletizing robot for safe handling of boxes of different sizes. Because of modern robot kinematics a central palletising plant emerged in space-saving and compact design.
The VacuBox is a complete vacuum gripper system which is optimised to meet the complex demands of the woodworking industry, namely the fully automatic handling of layers of boards, laths and beams. It is designed for continuous operation and provides a rational solution to the existing problems.
The application video shows how several layers of individual wooden boards can be handled quickly and variably with a large-area gripping system of the type FX400x120, although there are sometimes cracks, knot-holes, etc. on the gripping surface.
This application example shows the fully automatic handling of structured furniture parts with varying dimensions with the aid of the large-area vacuum gripping system FX 120/60, which permits the activation and deactivation of specific suction zones. The flexible, hard-wearing sealing mat ensures damage-free handling of the parts. The presence of parts is monitored with an electronic vacuum sensor, permitting optimisation of the cycle times.
The vacuum layer gripper SPZ-M-Cool has been designed for the use in refrigerated areas.
With its patented technology and flexible construction, the new VacuBox from Schmalz offers decisive benefits for the movement of layers of wood. A VacuBox vacuum-handling system makes it possible to handle layers of sawn timber consisting of very wide and heavy or very narrow (at least 40 mm) and light boards safely and economically.
This application example shows the complete vacuum gripper system, with spring-mounted suction pads, for the robot-assisted handling of furniture parts. The gripper system is used for the ful automatic loading of a machine which applies edge bands to the parts. The necessary vacuum is generated by a multi-chamber ejector of the type SEM.
This example shows the transport of empty Euro pallets to a position where they are automatically loaded with cardboard boxes. The pallets are lifted with the aid of a large-area gripping system of the type FX600x80SW, mounted on a four-axis industrial robot manufactured by Messrs Fresenius Medical Care. The pallet is gripped along the centre board.
The automated handling of newspapers and magazines in layers is a difficult process. Because of the different layers, the uneven surface and the astable material, the newspaper were previously transported manuell or with more expenses.
The removal of layers of boards, laths and planks from a stack is now child's play. The system is capable of handling workpieces of varying dimensions and weight made of different types of wood and arranged in different ways on the stack. Rough-sawn, unedged, cracked and warped workpieces can also be transported quickly and safely.
The doors factory uses many machines. These machines must be quickly and accurately loaded. The loading can be automated with the area gripper system SBX. The SBX enables automated palletizing and depalletizing of the doors. The doors are carefully handled.
The vacuum suction spider SSP with the FMC-grippers is often used for handling cheker plate. The grippers have a low height and a low weight. This makes them ideal for automated handling. Moreover, they have excellent sealing properties and absorb the unevenness of the checker plate.
The vacuum suction spiders consist of cross-beams made of aluminium sections, compact ejectors to provide the vacuum, spring plungers to compensate for any unevenness and bellows-type suction pads for gentle application to the workpieces. The system is thus ideal for careful and problem-free handling of cardboard separators, from picking up from the stack to placing in the correct position.
The large-area vacuum gripping system FXC-SG enables the flexible handling of cardboard boxes. The system operates with full or partial occupancy, so it can handle a different number of cardboard.
Palletizing and depalettizing from whole product layers with vacuum layer gripper SPZ-M with mechanical gripper assistance. The vacuum layer gripper SPZ is the gripper system in palett size. This enables the palettizing and depalettizing of whole product layors. This reduces significantly the cycle time.
When moving layers of wooden planks, the overall width of a layer may not exceed 1000 mm. Depending on the order to be filled, only a defined number of planks is lifted, this is often less than the total number of planks in one layer. In extreme cases, it must be possible to grip only a single plank securely.
This application example shows a solution for the fully automatic loading of a stationary CNC machine. The furniture parts, with varying dimensions, are lifted with only one vacuum crossbeam.
